Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: Is there any need for maintenance of the Triton?
Answer:   Yes.  Wiping it down and keeping it clean will insure the best operation of the Triton.  Some very basic maintenance should be considered especially in a gym setting. The Triton Swim Trainer's stainless steel rails need to be wiped down from time-to-time (typical wiping down of gym equipment) to remove any airborne dust and residue which gathers naturally. The Triton Trainer will not 'break down' as there are no mechanical parts and operates on friction with moving parts alone. For optimal operation, you can also wipe the rails down with a rag and silicone spray lubricant or WD-40 which also serves to keep it clean. Such lubrication, although not essential will provide constant smooth operation and an enhanced exercising experience.

Also, a light spray of lubricant behind the primary cable spool on the front end (where the friction discs are compressed) and also light spray on the pulleys is recommended from time-to-time.

Question:  Can the Total Immersion®  taught stroke be practiced on the Triton?
Answer:  Yes. The Triton Swim Trainer provides versatility to practice certain drills such as the ‘fingertip drag and ‘catch-up drill’ in addition to strokes taught by the reputable and recommended Total Immersion® program coaches.  While using the Triton, the “recovering hand” returns forward without hand-attachments or cords and permits the users more easily to position that recovering arm as recommended by coaches - while the working arm strokes underneath.

Question: How long should my workouts be on the Triton?
Answer:  Indoor workouts on the Triton are typically short and intense, ranging from 10 to 30 minutes. Swimming on the Triton can be a more intense workout than a longer workout in a pool because the body's core temperature rises quickly (burning calories, churning blood through the muscles' blood vessels) without the natural cool-down of water. In addition, the adjustable resistance setting can make the arms stroke harder on the Triton than the equivalent pull-through in water. So, the Triton swim training time does not need to equal the time put in by a swimmer during one pool workout .  Be sure to stretch from time- to-time as the natural discomfort of lying in a prone position is unavoidable on any dryland trainer.

Question: Can the Triton be easily adjusted for different size users?
Answer:
Yes. In a home setting, the Triton can even be customized for use by children 10 years and older with a few minutes of adjusting by an adult. As with any exercise machine with children, adult supervision should be required for safety purposes. In a gym or club setting, the Triton should be set up with 8 holes exposed on the bottom bar (as per enclosed instructions) to satisfy all adult users 5 ft and up.  Adjusting from user-to-user is as quick as 10 seconds with one adjustment on the left paddle.  The Triton comes with a "Quick Tips" adjusting card with photos to make it easy for adults to resize for stroking range of motion without staff assistance. The Triton also has many fine tuning adjustments as well (depth of stroke, angle of stroke, resistance of stroke) which each user can learn to utilize and customize for their training benefit and enjoyment.

Question: Does the Triton Swim Trainer allow body rotation?
Answer:  Body rotation is the one element of swimming in water which cannot be replicated perfectly on land. While there is no dryland trainer yet available which permits actual body rotation as it occurs in the water, we've designed the Triton bench (width and padding) to permit a measure of side-to-side roll while practicing the freestyle stroke. On land, the body uses "gravity" to help shift body angle whereas in water it is the 'weightless suspension' provided by buoyancy which allows swimmers to rotate and stroke simultaneously. If the swimmer has learned all the other stroke elements which can be practiced and rehearsed on the Triton, then hip and torso rotation will follow easily once in the water. This is what sets the Triton apart from other swim trainers. The Triton (unlike other swim trainers) impels the user to fully extend the lead hand to start the shoulder roll, which ultimately starts the body rotation when in the water. With that efficient and proper full extension learned and practiced, body rotation is easy and natural during a water swim workout. The important elements of swimming can be learned on the Triton and the body rotation will come easily in the water.

IMPORTANT Question: Do your recommend any Fitness Safety Practice with use of the Triton Swim Trainer?
Answer:  YES!  Adult supervision is strongly recommended when children under 12 are using the Triton Swim Trainer. Consult your physician or health care professional before performing any exercise described on these pages or any exercise technique or regimen, particularly if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you are elderly or have chronic or recurring medical conditions. Discontinue any exercise that causes you pain, dizziness or discomfort and consult a medical expert.

Question: Is the Triton rust proof?
Answer: Yes. We've made every effort to insure that the Triton is up to health club industry standards regarding rust proofing such as: powder coating all steel sections, stainless steel and aluminum secondary parts, marine-grade pulleys and cables. While there is no guarantee against rusting over time in extreme indoor conditions as a humid indoor pool deck, we have maximized our efforts as other like-industry products to insure many years of use. (note: the Triton is not weatherproofed for outdoor use)
